What is Hypnosis?

Updated: Sep 11, 2021

Let’s begin with dispelling some misconceptions by discussing what hypnosis is NOT.

Hypnosis is NOT sleep, magic, based on faith or religion, a state of unconsciousness, a loss of control, voodoo, a hoax, a myth, a spell or zombie trance. It’s is not any of those things.

Now, let’s talk about what hypnosis IS. Hypnosis is a scientific state and process we all experience at some point every day. It is the state between asleep and awake that each one of us passes through daily in our sleep/wake cycles. It is a state of superconsciousness where an idea becomes the focus. Also stated as, a subconscious realization of an idea. It’s a passive process which means it occurs naturally without effort.

It is a process to help you regain control by making positive changes in the most powerful part of your mind, the subconscious. The subconscious mind runs 95% of our lives. This is amazing news! By learning to direct this part of our mind, we can make changes effortlessly in our day to day life.

Here are some other examples of times during the day where you enter in to hypnosis or a hypnotic state: daydreaming, blank stare driving, meditation, yoga, watching a movie or tv show, and many others. Hypnosis is the state. Hypnotherapy is the process where you work directly with the subconscious to empower yourself to take control. Hypnotist (that’s me…), facilitates the process and helps you take control of your habits, behaviors and feelings. So, let’s benefit from this amazing process and make those changes to get you to your goals!
